Hunter Education

Online certification is designed for the adult hunter who has been shooting and/or hunting for a number of years or a youth who has an adult hunting/shooting mentor. It is not recommended for anyone under the age of 12, but options are a good study guide.

1. Complete the Online Hunter Education Course: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/outdoor-learning/hunter-education/online-course-plus-one-day-field-course

2. Attend my One-day Field Course.  The class will start at 09:00 or 1:00 (please check schedule) and last about 4.5 hours. Wear clothing suitable for outside activities since we spend most of our time outdoors.  If you have a rifle that you plan to use hunting, you can bring it and we might have a chance for you to verify your “Zero” for your rifle.  Plan on firing 10 rounds although, if there is time, we may shoot more.  It appears that you have some medical background, so if you have CLS bag or trauma kit, please bring it.  Also, feel free to bring other hunting associated items you plan to have during your hunts.  I like to have students explain their hunting plans and kits they take with them.

The fee for the One-day Field Course is $15.00.

The address is 4772 E. Hwy 190, San Saba, TX 76877 but don’t follow Google directions since it puts you west of town instead of east.  The best way to know where to stop is that as you cross the Colorado River Bridge on Hwy 190 going toward San Saba, reset you trip odometer.   At 4.0 miles there will be a set of red gates with a Delta Red sign by the road and a sign on the gate that says Taylor Ranch.  This is the range where we will teach the course.
